History

This PowerBook is in great shape, has the maximum CPU and memory of its generation, and is still under warranty until February, 2008. But when you buy this PowerBook, you are not just buying a laptop. You are buying a piece of History.

This PowerBook was used to program the bulk of the Lyceum blog system. It has spent countless days in the Ibiblio office. It has been in a meeting with the US Delegation to WIPO. It has watched innocently as countless cheesefries and pints of beer were consumed by its owner and Zack Exley.

It was used to record interviews with David Reed, Greg DeKoenigsberg, W. Scott McCullough, Tom Rabon, and Dan Gillmor.

It has been at drinks, lunch, dinner, or in the same room with Paul Jones, Courtney Pulitzer, Eric McLuhan, Allan Odgaard, Karl Fogel, Doc Searls, Bob Young, Matthew Szulik, Fred Stutzman, Terrell Russell, and danah boyd.

It has been in the same car as Richard Stallman, Cory Doctorow, and Kembrew McLeod.

Once, David Weinberger used it to instant message with Ben Hammersley.

Other details

• Everything works perfectly
• There are some cosmetic scratches on the bottom, as seen in the photo
• That is not a scratch or dust in the photo of the screen, it’s a reflection of something. The screen is in excellent condition.
• I installed some aftermarket rubber bumper feet, which are very handy. However when the battery was recalled, one of the feet went with it, and I never got around to getting a new one.
• I zeroed out the hard disk, and it currently has no OS installed on it. The original system restore discs are included, so you can easily bring it back to its original state from the Apple store. However, I imagine you will want to install OS X Leopard (10.5) on it.
