The dirty rotten bastards from directnic have left the US and now are residing in the Cayman Islands: http://www.directnic.com/about/contact.php

They are behind most of the spams and scams.

And people at Wikipedia dont think there is enough evidence that the directnic buffoons and their "family" of web sites and services (such as parked.com and now whypark.com) which I would NEVER EVER give them the opportunity of having anything to do with my domains - isnt borderline criminal.

STAY CLEAR AWAY FROM DIRECTNIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey I filed a complaint with the BBB in New Orleans against DirectNic and got my domain names back. It was not them but an ex boyfriend who stole them in my case. However, you would the the company would question why another person would buy my domain name just as it was up for renewal...but I guess who ever gives them the buck for they'll deal with the issues surrounding afterwords. In the end if you have issue take the proper measures and wrongs will be corrected.

DirectNIC has managed to steal two of my sites by not completing the transfers. I attempted for over a month and every attempt failed because I didn't verify the transfer. I never received any emails to respond too. Funny enough every help desk ticket reply went to my email address without a problem. This service is crap and I have filed a complaint with the Attorney Generals office. Nothing but crooks!!!

anyone else who's had problems file a complaint as I am. The best way to do things is by filing a complaint if there are enough of them they have to do something about it because it's just bad business for everyone..

I also have a domain registered with directnic and strangly I suddenly started receiving spam directed to all my email aliases, while I wasn't even using most of these email addresses. Are these dns servers open doors or are the guessing scripts of hackers that good?

I have been using them for years with a single major issue. With all the domain hijacking that goes on, I find it amazing that you folks are complaining about them going the extra mile to ensure it doesn't happen to you. I guess people just like to complain. Over the years I've registered and maintained more than 50 domains with them. No issues.

As for customer service, it's email based, so it's not the fastest thing on the planet, but they have always resolved my problems and complaints.

During Katrina, they managed to only go off-line for a day or so. That's some pretty excellent service in my book.

I just pulled my domains from them. They claimed I was offer the limit for the free hosting. (I was but, was not aware of it.) They claim to have sent out an email 3 days before deleting the site. Given how many spam filters block Directnic not a good idea to use email! Had been a fan of theirs but now spending my weekend transfering friends websites off of their site. Guess in the end you get what you pay for!

This is a normal practice done by all registrars. Crappy as it seems welcome to Free Enterprise and technically you don't own a domain the registry leases the use to you for a year.

As for the "Stonewalling" you are responsible for keeping your contact info current. If you can't prove you own the account in question you cannot access it. This doesnt prevent you from reregistering the domain. Most registrars will allow you to reregister without the account info as long as you arent trying to change the Domain info. I have done this before with Gandi.net,Godaddy,and Directnic when I have lost an email address and was in the process of proving the account was mine
